Emmie Alderson is a theatre maker and writer based in Manchester. Her work is interested in investigating place to unearth the human histories that reside there. Her practice is rooted in the approaches of walking, writing and archaeology . Through out her work she continues to explore female histories, through intimate installations, one to one performances and lecture performances.

Her current work 'A Pilgrimage for Sylvia' is a trilogy of performances which follow her pursuit of the remaining traces of poet Sylvia Plath's presence. The trilogy comprises an intimate one to one performance, a lecture performance, and an archival installation,. A Pilgrimage for Sylvia is an ongoing research project which is examining what it means to make a pilgrimage exploring its qualities as a spiritual and physical act.

This research project hopes to consider and examine Pilgrimages creative potential as a new strategy and approach to making contemporary theatre and performance. The project hopefully will become the focus of a practice as research PHD which I am in the process of pursuing.

Currently I am in a position of trying to discover and consider how the act of making Pilgrimage can be transformed into a contemporary performance making strategy.
